TF2 has died Empty TF2 has died

Post by Psycho Fri Oct 01, 2010 1:53 am

RIP
First the Mac update, which completely ruined the game menu, and now a cash shop.
BUY A HAT FOR ONLY 17.49 €
WTF Valve.
I thought they cared about their customers, and took joy in making games and were not just money hungry shitheads selling overpriced DLCs.
I thought releasing L4D2 so early was a one-time error.
But now I start the game and see ADS TO BUY ITEMS IN THE SHOP.
I mean if TF2 was a free game, this would be OK. But it is not.

I just hope that this is not the road Valve will take for future games,or they will be dead to me, just like TF2 is atm.

and yet, 4 of the 5 people ingame on my FL right now are playing TF2. It died you say?

@ the paying for items. AFAIK, all those items can be found randomly still. This is simply a shortcut. They have to pay their workers, you know...other games do this by releasing DLC's that cost 10-20 dollars each. Go look at the difference from TF2 now and TF2 when it was just released. And ALL of that was for free to PC. Name one other company that has done that many large updates for free.

The updates are a little overpowered, but, it still feels the same to me. I still like it, and this will probably encourage Valve to release EVEN MOAR gunz.

TF2 is great, and I am actually thankful for the new mac update. For some reason it stopped the crashes that I used to get every time I loaded up the game.

But yeah, the new update is awesome, although some of the items are a bit too overpowered.

And it's about bloody time they brought out the trader.

Gala-Labs (former Gala-Net, from my favorite mmorpg) (and likely many other f2p mmorpg makers)
They be doing updates and adding tons (way more than valve ever added to TF2) of new content for years now, and everything for free.
Granted, they have a cash shop, too.
But unlike TF2, you don't have to pay 17,99 EURO just for one silly hat. I mean, that's more than the game TF2 itself costs.

At least you understand.
While you can get those fucking hats randomly. it is a one in a million chance.
And apparently, havung a full set, includin the hats, gives you bonuses. I would NOT complain if this was a f2play game.

TF2 has died Empty Re: TF2 has died

Post by MoarToast Fri Oct 01, 2010 7:43 pm

It's a pretty fucking stupid update, yeah. In fact, I thought there might be some sort of in-game currency when I first read about it.

But honestly, TF2 has already been pretty fucking stupid for a while now. Some of the first updates were good, but then it became like they switched the employees working on the updates with the let's-dissallow-fucking-everything-because-we're-cocks employees from Left 4 Dead.

Honestly, I couldn't care less if it's "dead". If I wanted the old version I could just go buy one of the console versions used for $10. I'll only start complaining when they start releasing map packs at $10 a piece.

And really, it's not "dead". There's a difference between "ruined by stupidity" and "dead". Dead is Resident Evil Outbreak or one of the many multiplayer-only Goldsrc/Source mods that plague Moddb. Ruined by stupidity is a game/series like Call of Duty or Halo or any other otherwise well-made games ruined by overlooked balance issues and unnecessary updates.

Only really brought up that last point because I'm a grammar nazi, but my point is that TF2 is stupid and has been since long, long before this update. So basically my point is what's your point?

After the game had been out for 4-5 years. Before then, you had to pay for those expansion packs. And oh hey, look at 1942. Expansion packs free? Naw, they don't care about it anymore. Basically, DICE's release of the 1.50 patch was their way of saying "we're leaving the withering BF2 community with this last patch, have fun, we'll be focusing on the newer games now."

Because BF2 was running nicely during the 1.41 era and didn't need more free content. It would be hard for them to add something that fits into BF2 that would be easy to produce. You can add whatever you want into TF2 due to the cartoonish style.

However, they didn't fix what was really broken in that game.
All you'll notice is how they added support for that Falcon shit that is pretty useless and the extra content. Netcode and hitboxes were and are still shit. (The changelog said "Improved hit detection". That's a LIE. Just like Valve and release dates.)
I also read that they did something with some jets, but I'm not sure.

Also, notice how BF2 is pretty much still alive and will be till BF3 comes out. TF2 however, has a bunch of useless stuff added to it to keep kiddies playing. "lol hats so funnahy"

*EDIT*

Checked xfire and noticed how the last update somehow managed to make the stats jump.
Whatever they did, wont keep players playing for long.

BF2 stats. There's no need for silly updates as long as it stays like this.

I honestly think valve just wants to keep the game alive, it's nothing bad.
BF2 has a lot of players probably because it is still relatively new, unlike TF2.

My problem are the crates however (new item drop) that you can open by buying a key for 2.50$. The problem is that me and cherry were trading, and I gave him my box since I'm not gonna spend money, and all he got was a gunslinger.

...What?

BF2 came out in June of 2005, TF2 came out in October of 2007.

I remember buying TF2 a few months after it came out, recommended by the great Christopher C. Livingston, as I recall. It was fun for about 3 months, then my good computer "broke," for a lack of better terms.

After that, it was basically "Well this sucks," however, I did keep up-to-date with the updates, and was pleased to see classes getting additional weapons and always enjoyed the "Meet the-" videos. The whole "hat simulator" joke was nothing but an overused gag, I constantly realized, and simply enjoyed the time I had with it.

However, there came the whole fiasco with idling, (I hadn't played the game for a month before to a month after that event, and I still haven't gotten a halo), then crafting, and the final nail in the coffin: trading.

The game had finally become about nothing but getting the best hats, and the Mann-Conomy update was like a Robin Hood-esque final nail-in-the-final-nail-in-the-coffin for the game, as far as I saw.

Good God, Valve. What have you done?
